Cello
Graphically Cello is appealing but a bit odd. The graphics are
256-color, only the unnecessarily incompatible palettes require
hi-color, and were obviously designed for a 640×400 display: if you
stretch the screenshot 20% vertically, the pieces will become perfectly
circular. The marble background provides a stark contrast to the
mundane window with its run-of-the mill icons. A nice touch is the busy
cursor in form of a coffee cup. The toughest difficulty setting is
called Coffee Break, probably because you can take one while the
program figures out its next move.
There is one annoying habit that has to be reported. Cello
allows saving games. These savegames have the not uncommon extension
SAV. The annoying part is that whenever you start it, Cello registers
itself as the default program to open SAV files. It even has a special
icon for them. There is absolutely nothing you can do about that.
Cello runs under Win32s. It needs 64k colors
minimum for best viewing.
