Gems v1.4
This Columns clone comes with four seperate tilesets. On screen
resolutions of 1024×768 and above it will use 32×32 tiles, on smaller
resolutions 24×24 tiles. Both sizes come in two versions, one for
16 color desktops, and one for desktops of 256 colors or more.
However, for some reason the two 24×24 tilesets enclosed in the
archive are identical. The screenshot above shows how the game looks
on a smaller monitor; click on it, and you see the 32×32, 256 color
tiles in action.
Custom Tiles
Since the tiles are stored in standard Windows bitmaps, you can
edit them or create your own. Unfortunately, there is no easy way
to select between multiple tilesets. It can only be done over the
GEMS.INI the game writes into the Windows directory. Under [Settings],
add the line FileTag=XXX, where XXX are one to three characters. Gems
will then look for a bitmap starting with those characters. Only the
bitmap for your actual desktop setting needs to be present. If it does
not exist, the game will throw an error message and exit.
