Sea Battle
In 1992, Sergey Bobrov and Sergey Burenkov created at least three
Windows games which they marketed under the label AQUA enterprise Ltd.,
Russian Roulette (a card game), a 15 puzzle, and this Battleship
implementation. I couldn't figure out the Russian Roulette, but the
other two are very well done, with lots of configuration options and
appealing graphics.
In Sea Battle, you can choose three difficulty settings, which
affect the size of the board, the number of ships and the maximum
ship size:
- Lieutenant: 7×7
- Captain: 10×10
- Admiral: 14×14
The presentation and graphics are naive, but appealing, from the
icon that shows a sailing ship over the animated flames that signify
the hits to the background in the style of an old map.
Unfortunately this is the stingiest demo I have ever encountered:
after annoying you with a splash screen that stays far too long, it
allows exactly 40 seconds of gameplay.
