Laserstrike
Laserstrike is maybe the most conventional of Kevin Ng's three games
(the other two are Wormworld
and Lunacy),
it has the most beautiful graphics (IMHO) and is the only one that will
not run on a modern computer. From about 800MHz on you get the well-known
Runtime Error 200.
The goal of each level is to shoot the yellow iris power block. You
must shoot it twice with the laser cannon. Each level has at least one
track tank, some have additional pod tanks or more track tanks. Track
tanks can be moved either horizontally or vertically, pod tanks can be
rotated, but only by shooting at them.
Between the tank and the iris power block there will be, of course,
several obstacles. Steel blocks (gray) cannot be moved, and can be
destroyed only by acid (green). Brick blocks (red) can be destroyed
with two shots. Sometimes they are already damaged and will yield to
the third. Movable blocks (cyan) can be pushed out of the way by the
laser.
Square gate blocks can be shot through in any direction, but close
afterwards. Round gate blocks stay open, but can be shot through only
either vertically or horizontally, and rotate after each shot. Mirrors
reflect the laser, but move when shot from the non-reflecting side.
There is a nice set of tutorial levels that help you get acquainted
with this arsenal. The actual levels are quite different. But don't
panic—it's not as hard as it looks at first glance.
