Box World

Box World is one of the most popular, and maybe the best known, Sokoban clones for Windows. It takes its levels, a hundred in total, mostly or even completely from the 1986 Famicom version of this game, Namida no Soukoban Special. Since this version and its levels are little known outside Japan, it will provide a new experience even to those who have already played most of the other Sokoban clones.

Graphically it is the only clone that I know that takes its inspiration from the Japanese original, not from Spectrum HoloByte's version or XSokoban. The maze is viewed strictly top-down, the crates are thus exact squares, while the sokoban is viewed from the side. The target fields are marked with dots.

Box World counts only the moves (pushes) you take to solve a puzzle. It does not count the steps, and it does not have a timer. There is a 32-bit remake, with slightly larger hi-color graphics, under the name of Soukoban.
