Warri!
The screenshots of PoornBoy's Warri! look good enough. It is
different when you actually play the game. At a certain point in
its life, this fine background has been a JPEG, and it has massive
artefacts. Gameplay is the same as in any other Mancala game following
the Oware rules, but pointing correctly with that hand cursor isn't
all that easy. There is supposed to be a console, but I could not
find out how to start it; there is a scripting language, which is
used for the tutorial, but what point a scripting language in a
Mancala game should have remains unclear.
As for the identity of PoornBoy, it is completely mysterious.
He once had a website (Poorn-o-Rama) at poornboy.8m.com which was
defunct as early as 2001 and is not archived on the Wayback Machine.
There is no documentation or readme in the archive. He wrote one other
game, the Mastermind clone 5 Bunnies and a Duck. Both of his games are
available from several freeware sites, but apart from that nothing is
known about him.
