Helichecker 1.1
It took me a while to figure this game out, no wonder, in spite
of the English title screen and main menu, what documentation there
is is in Russian. It's a vocabulary game, obviously designed for
Russian kids learning English.
After the main menu you have a choice of topics (in Russian).
Having chosen one, you come to the game screen proper. In front of a
VGA landscape there are a couple of English words pertaining to the
topic you have chosen. The words are like floating platforms. You
control a small helicopter, and your task is to land it on the
platform that matches the Russian word displayed at the top. Once
you have made your choice and landed the helicopter (to a certain
degree, it follows the laws of physics, so there is a minor skill
element as well, but you can never crash it), you hit the space
bar. If your choice was wrong, the helicopter will explode, and you
lose one of your five lifes. If your choice was right, it will
dissolve with a more pleasant animation. In any case, the next
Russian word will be displayed.
Since I don't speak Russian, I couldn't play the game for very
long. I don't know if there's some scoring system, and I don't know
what the difference between the red and blue word platforms is. But
it's a nice little game. Don't forget that it works both ways: while
designed to help Russians learn English, you could just as well use
it to learn Russian. And be sure to check out the credits screen,
it is worth seeing.
