Brix

In the fall of 1991, Michael Riedel, who studied computer science in Karlsruhe, was bored. He had passed his last test, now six weeks lay ahead of him with nothing to do. He decided to train his VGA programming skills. The result was Brix, a faithful clone of the Amiga version of Puzznic, both in level design and graphics, but of course without the music. There are minimal color differences, and the tiles that surround the playing field were taken from Atomic instead.

Michael Riedel released his game as freeware, and obviously its fame crossed the Atlantic, for soon he wrote Brix I, an enhanced version with more opulent graphics, trickier (and original) levels, and Soundblaster music for Maryland-based shareware distributor Epic MegaGames, who released it in 1992.
